2 Injured as Fire Engulfs Gas Platform
The Angolan oil company Somoil reported to the Lusa news agency that the fire that broke out on Thursday at an oil extraction Plataforma in northern Angola was already extinguished, with the two injured “stable and recovering.”
In a statement sent to Lusa, the Angolan Petroleum Society (Somoil) said that the fire, which broke out on Thursday at 10:15am, was extinguished early this afternoon and affected the platform Estrela B1, operated by Well Jacket, in Block 2/05, in Soyo, Angolan province of Zaire, without oil spill at sea.
“Two service workers on the platform were rescued to the Sagrada Esperança Clinic in Soyo, where they received medical care as a result of burns. Both are stable and recovering,” says Somoil.

In the statement, the company said that soon after the fire started, emergency crews from Somoil and Sonangol Research and Production were “immediately mobilized”.
In the fire fighting, under the protocol of the Association of Exploration and Production Companies of Angola, the two companies had the logistical, technical and coordination support of nearby operators, such as ALNG, Chevron, Total, BP, Esso and ENI,
On Friday, the National Police’s Zaire Provincial Command, based in Mbanza Congo, quoted by the Angolan news agency Angop, indicated that the incident occurred following a “probable gas leak” in Block 2 from an oil platform
