Baker Hughes Releases Worldwide Rig Count and it’s Good News for the Industry
Worldwide offshore rig count in June up by 56 rigs year-over-year
The worldwide offshore rig count in June 2019 dropped by 9 units compared to May, but it was up 56 compared to June 2018, according to monthly rig count reports by Baker Hughes, a GE company.
BHGE splits its rig counts into international and North America rig counts, which combined make the worldwide rig count.
The worldwide offshore rig count for June 2019 was 273, down 9 from 264 in May 2019 and up 56 from 217 in June 2018.
Baker Hughes said on Wednesday that the international rig count for June 2019 was 1,138, up 12 from the 1,126 counted in May 2019, and up 179 from the 959 counted in June 2018.
The international offshore rig count for June 2019 was 246, up 6 from the 240 counted in May 2019, and up 51 from the 195 counted in June 2018.
Regionally, Asia Pacific had the highest number of offshore rigs in June totaling 95, up 5 from May 2019 and up 11 from 79 in May 2018.

The Middle East region held the second place in the number of offshore rigs during June totaling 54, identical from May 2019 and up 12 from 42 counted in June 2018.
Next up was Europe with 49, then Latin America with 27, and finally Africa with 21 offshore rigs in June 2019.
In North America, the offshore rig count in June 2019 totaled 27, up 3 rigs from the month before and up 5 from 22 counted in June 2018.
The average U.S. rig count for June 2019 was 969, down 17 from the 986 counted in May 2019, and down 87 from the 1,056 counted in June 2018.
The average Canadian rig count for June 2019 was 114, up 44 from the 70 counted in May 2019, and down 23 from the 137 counted in June 2018.
The worldwide rig count for June 2019 was 2,221, up 39 from the 2,182 counted in May 2019, and up 69 from the 2,152 counted in June 2018.
